I am so tired of your ghost
You know I miss it the most
I never meant to ignore you
I never know what to do
I’m so tied up and lonely now
I didn’t know you cared
I’m so tied up and lonely now
I didn’t know you cared
Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah
Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah
You never told me what went wrong
I know you tried for so long
I never meant to destroy you
I never know what to do
I’m so tied up and lonely now
I didn’t know you cared
I’m so tied up and lonely now
I didn’t know you cared
Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah
Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah
Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah
Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah

This song is about dealing with conflicting feelings about someone who is no longer a physical presence in the person’s life. This song isn’t autobiographical for me (at least, I don’t think it is), but most of us can probably relate to some of the conflicted feelings that the person has.
The initial seeds of ideas for songs often initially seem to lack any meaning or relevance. As the idea turns into a song, it often becomes apparent that the initial idea wasn’t actually meaningless and that it contains a message from the subconscious.
I’m still not sure where this idea came from but the line “tired of your ghost” came right away, along with the line “I’m so tied up and lonely now”. The rest of the song was built around those ideas.
I’m curious to know if anyone hears the influence of the song “Music Box Dancer” in the background piano part.
Many parts of the video were filmed by my twelve-year-old son at Cathedral Park in Portland. I filmed other parts myself using a tripod in front of a mural in an alley in downtown Beaverton, which elicited some curious looks from passers by.
