Background Information

The idea for this song came when I was picking up my kids from their mom’s house after school. I had to wait for my youngest daughter to get there so I was playing the piano while I waited. The main ideas for this song came instantly, so the bones of it were formed in the 5 minutes or so that I had that afternoon. After the initial idea was solidified, the only things that I did were to make some changes to how I was playing the melody and determining the structure of the song.

It wasn’t until I was done recording it that I decided on a name for it. I was looking through pictures that I’ve taken to see if there was one I’d like to use for an album cover. I found a picture that I’d taken in Vernazza, Italy. The picture was taken in the evening, near the Mediterranean Sea, and in it you see two people, who I believe are both kids, looking out the window. Both have looks on their faces that allow my imagination to come up with many ideas about what they’re thinking and feeling and why that might be. This, along with the intense thoughts and feelings that I was experiencing during this time in Italy, led me to choosing Vernazza as the name of the song.
