Lyrics

“We Are Who We Are Now”

It's time to take a stand

You know you got to get out while you can

It seems like they don’t understand

now we’re getting closer to the end

But you don’t know what I know

And you never seem to hear

Now they’re gonna try and take the reigns

We gotta live to see another day

We are who we are now

You tell us what we’re not now

Show ya what we got now

and I think we’re moving on

You’re nothing but bravado

You call us desperados

We’re incommunicado

And I think we’re moving on

Now we’re’ closer to the end

And now we gotta speak up while we can

Oh but they don’t understand

That’s why we gotta take it to the man

But we don’t know where to go

And you never seem to care

Then they gonna have to fall behind

Or we’re gonna start to lose our minds

We are who we are now

You tell us what we’re not now

Show ya what we got now

and I think we’re moving on

You’re nothing but bravado

You call us desperados

We’re incommunicado

And I think we’re moving on

Background Information

This song was a long time coming.

The chorus for “We Are Who We Are Now” was written about seven years ago. Over time, the rest of the song slowly took shape. I recorded the instruments a few years back, and it sat unfinished until I finally came back to add the vocals recently.

It turned out to be a fun one to sing—especially when I tried to add some Axl Rose-style energy to the chorus.
